A lot more than 15 floating roof storage tanks failed during Hurricane Harvey, permitting a combined 3.1 million pounds of volatile chemical substances to spew to the atmosphere throughout the region, based on reports the businesses filed with ecological agencies. This number of problems, combined with break down of drainage systems made to funnel water off the roofs, exposed the weaknesses of drifting roof tanks even while climatologists warn that future storms will carry more rainfall as international temperatures rise and ocean waters hot.
